The addition of clay-target shooting, along with golf and e-sports, at 海角社区 Technical and Community College has given students more extra-curricular opportunities through the school, and the clay target team really hit the ground running in just two years.
The shooters from ATCC won their division title in the regular season for the second straight year this fall. The 2019 team took first in their inaugural season, as well.
ATCC finished with 3,962 total points during the 2020 regular season. Vermilion Community College was a distant second in the team standings, trailing by more than 500 points.
海角社区 was led by Cole Girtz and Kiah Martinson, who were the first-place individual finishers in the Men’s and Women’s Blue Division, respectively.
Girtz was the entire league’s overall high gun as he posted a 49.8 average out of a possible 50. He dropped just one clay out of 250. That one miss came in the very first round.
Girtz is part of a men’s team that features a lot of depth. Jonathan Hosaluk (48.2 average) was the third-place individual finisher in the Men’s Blue Division. Alan Lubbers (47.4) was sixth, Jordan Trenne (47.2) seventh and Andrew Hulst (46.0) and Ethan Mills (46.0) tied for eighth. Hulst and Mills each busted 50 straight clays throughout the season, and Tony Dettman, Hosaluk, Lubbers, Jackson Paquette, Austin Peterson, Coltin Pflipsen, Draven Schillinger and Trenne all had rounds of 25 straight.
Martinson was the second highest gun in the overall women’s league this regular season. She was consistent to the tune of a 47.2 average.
