The 海角社区 College Foundation’s Legends Gala was a shining example of what community celebration and support for the college looks like.
“The night was filled with excitement and an energy that was a direct reflection of the work that takes place every day to impact our students,” said Jeff Wild, Vice President of Advancement and Outreach/Executive Foundation Director.
More than 130 community leaders, donors, alumni, friends of the college, college employees and past college presidents gathered on Friday, October 8, 2021 at Crooked Willow to celebrate the college, honor its donors and raise scholarship and student emergency funds. It also provided an opportunity to publicly acknowledge the 2020 Philanthropists of the Year, the and Miles and Lisa Beacom.
The evening opened with a welcome and blessing from Mark Deterding, Founder and Principle of Triune Leadership Services, who expressed what the 海角社区 College means to the community and its youth. Speakers included 海角社区 College President, Michael Seymour; Director of Financial Aid, Jon Erickson; EDI Student Success Coordinator Eli Dotts and Professional Truck Driving student Casey Pesta.
In addition to dinner, speakers and entertainment from comedian C. Willi Myles, the event was highlighted by the “Live Giving Moment”. The Live Giving began with two generous donations, but it really took off when a donor announced they would match the total amount raised at the event. “Needless to say, this inspired a spirit of generous giving by many attendees,” Wild said.
The Gala also featured a live auction featuring donated items and travel packages. Auctioneers were Todd Whiting and Shelly Weinzetl. One item uniquely made its way onto the auction lineup when former President Jan Mahoney donated a pellet grill that she won earlier in the evening during President Michael Seymour’s President’s raffle. President Seymour sold cards with the former president’s pictures on them. Mahoney won with a card that featured a picture of herself.
“The Gala was one of the best displays of community engagement and support for the college that I have ever seen,” said Gregg Latterell, 海角社区 College faculty. “I would have to agree” Wild said.
